Korea Elevates Intellectual Property Office To Ministry Status For Innovation Leadership

The Presidential Office of South Korea has announced that the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) will be elevated to the status of a Ministry of Intellectual Property. With this transition, the head of the ministry will obtain the authority to participate in Cabinet meetings and independently propose legislation. The move significantly enhances the agency’s policy autonomy, providing greater influence in shaping the country’s innovation framework and overall economic direction.

By granting KIPO ministerial status, the government aims to create a stronger foundation for a comprehensive, government-wide innovation strategy.
