A high-level delegation from VEON and Jazz, led by VEON Group CEO Kaan Terzioğlu and Jazz CEO Aamir Ibrahim, met with Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman, Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), to explore avenues for accelerating Pakistan’s digital potential. The discussions focused on industry reforms, spectrum management, and policies designed to attract investment in the digital sector, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing the country’s technological ecosystem.

VEON CEO Terzioğlu emphasized Pakistan’s importance as a strategic growth market for VEON, highlighting Jazz’s role as a key driver of digital adoption nationwide. The delegation discussed strategies to expand broadband coverage, prepare for 5G deployment, and scale digital platforms that serve both citizens and businesses. Jazz’s expertise in mobile broadband connectivity and digital service delivery was presented as a critical enabler for strengthening digital sovereignty and fostering innovation across the country.

During the session, Jazz and VEON called for industry-wide reforms to create an enabling environment for telecom and digital investment. Key points included advocating for fair spectrum pricing, timely release of additional spectrum, rationalized taxation, and delinking telecom costs from dollar indexation. Discussions also covered simplified licensing processes, support for shared network infrastructure, separate service provisioning, and the implementation of predictable regulatory policies to encourage sustainable investment in Pakistan’s digital ecosystem.

The delegation welcomed the recent waiver of Right of Way (RoW) charges in Islamabad, noting it as a positive step toward accelerating fiberization and digital infrastructure rollout. They encouraged extending this reform nationwide to ensure consistent conditions for network expansion. The meeting highlighted the commitment of both Jazz and VEON to support the Government of Pakistan’s Digital Pakistan agenda by advocating progressive reforms and investing in next-generation platforms. The companies aim to create inclusive socio-economic benefits while positioning Pakistan as a competitive digital economy in the region.

Through this engagement, VEON and Jazz reinforced their focus on enabling connectivity, digital innovation, and economic growth, aligning with national priorities for broadband expansion, 5G readiness, and improved digital services. The discussions underscored the importance of regulatory clarity, investor confidence, and technology-driven policies as key drivers for the country’s transformation into a leading digital economy in South Asia.
