The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has selected Dr. Umar Saif, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information Technology & Telecommunication, to join the Digital Innovation Board of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance for Digital Development.
This alliance seeks to bridge the global digital innovation gap and support ITU members in achieving a fair digital future. Dr. Saif joins 17 other distinguished individuals recognized for their innovation track record, providing strategic guidance and expertise for the alliance’s mission.
The Digital Innovation Board, established by the alliance, will offer strategic direction on building critical local enablers and promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in digital development. It will also lead discussions on fostering innovation with stakeholders such as UN agencies, governments, and the private sector.
Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, the Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT), will co-chair the Digital Innovation Board, with the second co-chair to be nominated during the inaugural board meeting.
Initiated by the BDT Director, the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance for Digital Development aims to enhance local capabilities in the evolving digital landscape and strengthen engagement with the private sector and academia.
The appointment of Dr. Saif and other distinguished members underscores a collective commitment to realizing an equitable and sustainable digital future for all.
