National Telecommunication Corporation is preparing to launch 30 free Wi-Fi hotspots across Islamabad by December 2025, officials told the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology. The initiative is part of Pakistan’s broader strategy to strengthen digital infrastructure and increase public access to high-speed internet services. NTC representatives highlighted that the project is progressing steadily, with hotspots planned at key locations throughout the capital to benefit both residents and visitors, providing reliable connectivity for work, education, and online services.

NTC officials emphasized that the initiative complements the organisation’s existing network, which currently serves over 3,000 institutions across 100 cities in Pakistan. This coverage includes cybersecurity support for various government organisations, ensuring that digital operations remain secure while users enjoy uninterrupted internet access. By extending services to public Wi-Fi, NTC aims to create a more connected and inclusive digital environment, enabling citizens to access online resources more conveniently. The rollout of these hotspots aligns with Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to promote digital literacy and expand internet accessibility in urban areas.

Authorities explained that each hotspot will provide high-speed connectivity capable of supporting multiple simultaneous users, designed to cater to a wide range of activities including online learning, digital payments, and access to government e-services. The initiative also seeks to encourage technology adoption among citizens by demonstrating the practical benefits of reliable internet access in public spaces. Islamabad is expected to emerge as a more connected city, with the Wi-Fi project contributing to a modern, tech-friendly urban environment. Officials noted that the project’s timely completion is expected to reinforce Pakistan’s commitment to delivering digital services that are accessible, affordable, and secure.

Beyond connectivity, the free Wi-Fi program reflects a broader vision to enhance public digital services and promote a digitally inclusive society. By integrating public hotspots into the city’s infrastructure, authorities aim to reduce barriers to digital access while supporting the government’s objectives under the Digital Nation Pakistan vision. Residents and visitors alike will be able to leverage these hotspots for a variety of online tasks, including accessing educational resources, government platforms, and commercial services. NTC’s initiative is expected to serve as a model for expanding similar public Wi-Fi services to other cities, further strengthening Pakistan’s digital ecosystem and fostering wider adoption of technology across communities.
