Mobile phone services in Islamabad have been partially suspended ahead of the country’s Independence Day celebrations, with disruptions affecting multiple sectors, including G-6, G-7, G-8, and areas within the H sectors. Residents and businesses in these localities reported difficulties in making calls, sending messages, and accessing mobile internet as services were restricted in the lead-up to the national event. Officials have confirmed that the suspension has been implemented on security grounds and is in accordance with instructions issued by the Ministry of Interior.

The measure coincides with preparations for the main Independence Day ceremony, scheduled to take place at Parade Ground in the morning of August 14. Authorities anticipate high-profile attendance and large public gatherings at the central venue, prompting additional security arrangements. The suspension of mobile communications in selected areas is part of a broader protocol aimed at ensuring public safety and minimizing the risk of any incidents during the event. Such precautions have been taken in previous years during significant national occasions, with the aim of maintaining a secure environment for participants and officials.

Sources have indicated that the mobile service restrictions will remain in effect throughout the duration of the central Independence Day proceedings and may be lifted once the event concludes. While no official timeline for restoration has been publicly announced, service providers are expected to resume normal operations as soon as security agencies give clearance. The affected sectors house a mix of residential neighborhoods, commercial establishments, and government offices, making the suspension particularly impactful for daily activities. Businesses relying on mobile connectivity for transactions and customer communications have reported temporary disruptions, although many have shifted to alternative channels to continue operations.

Service suspensions in connection with major national events are typically coordinated with telecom operators and overseen by PTA in collaboration with security agencies. While such actions can cause inconvenience to residents and businesses, they are generally implemented in targeted areas to reduce disruption across the wider city. This year’s arrangements underscore the significance placed on securing Independence Day celebrations, especially given the scale of public participation and the presence of high-ranking dignitaries. The Ministry of Interior’s directive reflects a continued emphasis on preventive measures, particularly in locations surrounding central event sites.

Citizens have been advised to plan communications in advance, make alternative arrangements where possible, and stay informed about updates from official sources. Public safety authorities have also urged cooperation from the public, noting that the restrictions are temporary and focused on maintaining the security of all attendees and participants. With the Independence Day ceremony serving as a focal point for national pride, the operational adjustments — including partial mobile service suspension — form part of the overall logistical framework supporting the smooth conduct of the celebrations.
