The International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at the University of Karachi has announced Pakistan’s largest Summer Internship Program 2026, inviting applications from recent graduates across a range of scientific disciplines. The programme is scheduled to run from June 1 to August 31, 2026, and is open to recent BS, MSc, PharmD, MS, and MPhil graduates, continuing a tradition of structured scientific training that the institution has maintained annually since 2008. The announcement marks the 19th edition of the programme, which has steadily grown in scale and reputation to become the most sought-after internship platform in Pakistan’s academic research landscape.
ICCBS is one of the premier research establishments in the developing world, carrying the distinction of being a UNESCO Centre of Excellence, a World Health Organization Centre of Excellence, a TWAS Centre of Excellence, and an Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Centre of Excellence. It is the only institution in the Islamic world to have won the Islamic Development Bank Prize for Excellence twice, and over its 51-year history has earned 33 high civil awards for its faculty while training thousands of young researchers from Pakistan and abroad in frontier areas of science and technology. The centre comprises two constituent units, the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry and the Dr. Panjwani Centre for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research, both of which participate in the internship programme.
The 2025 edition of the programme attracted nearly 1,400 applications, from which the most outstanding candidates were shortlisted through a rigorous selection process. A total of 125 students were selected from 27 universities and colleges across the country, receiving specialised training across fields including Biological and Chemical Sciences, Diagnostic Laboratories, the Industrial Analytical Centre, and the Centre for Bioequivalence Studies and Clinical Research. The 2026 programme is expected to build on that momentum, offering selected interns hands-on exposure to world-class research facilities and direct mentorship from some of Pakistan’s most accomplished scientists. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply early given the consistently high demand for placements and the limited number of seats available each year.
