The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Lahore Regional Centre organised an online workshop on the Programme Standards and Guidelines 2023 (PSG-2023) aimed at strengthening quality assurance practices, promoting continuous improvement, and building institutional capacity across higher education institutions (HEIs). The workshop formed part of the Lahore Regional Centre’s ongoing capacity building initiatives designed to help universities align their academic and administrative processes with national quality standards.
Around 40 participants attended the training, drawn from four higher education institutions and including registrars, directors from Quality Enhancement Cells (QEC) and Offices of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC), controllers, heads of departments, faculty members, and administrators. The mix of attendees reflected the workshop’s focus on bringing together the different institutional roles responsible for implementing and overseeing quality assurance processes at the university level.
The session was formally welcomed by Muhammad Javed Iqbal, Director of the HEC Lahore Regional Centre, who set the context for the workshop’s objectives around strengthening institutional ownership of quality standards. Agha Muhammad Raza, Deputy Director at HEC Islamabad, delivered the core session on quality assurance standards and guidelines under PSG-2023, placing particular emphasis on outcome based education, the need for continuous improvement processes, and the importance of accountability and institutional ownership in sustaining quality standards over time.
The workshop reflects HEC’s broader efforts to standardise quality assurance practices across Pakistan’s higher education institutions, ensuring that universities and colleges maintain consistent benchmarks for academic delivery and institutional governance. By bringing together registrars, quality assurance personnel, and academic leadership in a single training session, the Lahore Regional Centre aimed to reinforce a shared understanding of PSG-2023 requirements while encouraging participating institutions to embed continuous improvement into their regular administrative and academic operations going forward.
