Since Major General (Retd) Amir Azeem Bajwa resigned as chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on January 4th, 2023, the Cabinet Division has received more than 50 applications for the position.

For the purpose of evaluating and shortlisting applicants, the federal government has established two committees. According to knowledgeable sources who spoke to ProPakistani, two committees—one made up of Cabinet Division officials and the other of federal ministers and secretaries—will evaluate the nominees.

The Cabinet Division published an advertisement for the appointment of the new Chairman of the PTA in December of last year. The promotion asked qualified applicants to apply for two weeks.

Prior to that, the federal government declined to prolong Major General (Retd) Amir Azeem Bajwa’s tenure as PTA chairman. The tenure was to be extended by 4 years, according to a summary from the cabinet division. It is interesting that the Cabinet Division had initially urged the chairman to stay on until January 21, 2023, which he rejected, before making a decision.
