The government has formed a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to delve into malicious campaigns targeting state institutions on social media platforms. The five-member team, established under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), will be headed by the Inspector General of Islamabad.

Members of the JIT include key officials from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), specifically the Directors of Cyber Crime and Counter-Terrorism Wings, as well as the Deputy Inspector General of Investigation Islamabad and the Senior Superintendent of Police of Islamabad’s Counter-Terrorism Department.

The team is tasked with identifying the individuals and groups behind these campaigns, understanding their motivations, and bringing them to justice. The JIT will investigate the nature, scope, and impact of the malicious content, as well as the methods used to disseminate it.

By establishing this specialized investigative body, the government aims to counter the spread of disinformation and protect the integrity of state institutions. The JIT’s findings are expected to inform future policies and strategies to address the evolving landscape of cyber threats.

CWPK Legacy
Launched in 1967 internationally, ComputerWorld is the oldest tech magazine/media property in the world. In Pakistan, ComputerWorld was launched in 1995.
