A two-day digital journalism workshop was recently organized in Punjab in collaboration with Google, TechValley, and the Punjab Education Department. The initiative aimed to help journalists, editors, and media professionals understand and utilize modern technology in news production and content creation. The event drew participation from reporters, assignment editors, producers, bloggers, podcasters, analysts, and vloggers, all of whom engaged in discussions and training sessions focused on improving their digital proficiency and storytelling techniques.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat addressed the participants, emphasizing that digital literacy has become a crucial skill for journalists in an increasingly technology-driven media environment. He stated that mastering digital tools is essential for professionals who want to stay relevant in the era of artificial intelligence. The minister highlighted that the provincial government has launched a series of capacity-building initiatives in partnership with Google and TechValley to promote digital transformation across the education and information sectors. These programs aim to prepare both educators and media practitioners for the evolving digital landscape by integrating advanced technological practices into their daily work.

During the workshop, participants explored how tools such as Google Trends can support more accurate, data-informed, and analytical reporting. They also learned techniques for identifying reliable digital sources, understanding online audience behavior, and utilizing AI tools to streamline newsroom operations. The sessions provided hands-on exposure to using Google’s digital journalism resources and emphasized the importance of ethical reporting in the age of social media and instant information sharing. Rana Sikandar Hayat engaged directly with attendees, addressing their questions about the role of technology in strengthening journalistic integrity and efficiency.

The collaboration between Google, TechValley, and the Punjab Education Department reflects a growing commitment to modernizing journalism education and empowering media professionals to adapt to new digital realities. It also demonstrates how technology companies can contribute to improving information ecosystems by equipping journalists with essential digital competencies. The initiative is part of a broader effort to support Pakistan’s transition toward a more digitally literate society, where journalists can play a key role in ensuring informed, responsible, and data-backed communication. Meanwhile, the Punjab Public Service Commission announced final results for various positions in the Health and Irrigation departments, underscoring the province’s continued efforts toward institutional progress and professional development.
