Founded by Thomas Edison on the 15thof April 1892, General Electric (GE) is an American multinational conglomerate incorporated in New Yorkand headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. As of 2018, the company operates through the following segments: aviation, healthcare, power, renewable energy, digital, additive manufacturing, venture capital and finance, lighting, transportation, and oil and gas.

With so many years under their cap, GE is one of the original 12 companies listed on the Dow Jones Industrial Average and in 2010 was ranked by Forbes as the world’s second largest company.  It is also ranked among the Fortune 500 as the 13th-largest firm in the U.S. by gross revenue. In 2011, GE ranked as the 14th-most profitable.

GE is one of the oldest functioning company in world today, and one of the main reasons it has managed to still be relevant in a industry that is rapidly growing and changing, and has seen many companies come and go is that GE has kept up with the demands of the world and has made efforts to bring innovations.

GE is all set to lead the globe in terms of industrial Internet of Things (IoT); they have a strong outlook on the market and remain committed to pioneering technologies to help companies capitalize on the Industrial IoT.

In one of their reports, GE stated that

“There’s no one else doing what GE Digital does. Full stop. We have the only global, comprehensive offering that manages the entire asset lifecycle. Our applications help industrials run their assets more efficiently and also make people more efficient, arming them with the right information to make more informed decisions.”

Furthermore, GE has also gone into a strategic alliance with Engro Corporation Limited at GE’s Crotonville Global Leadership Institute that is to make Engro a key digital industrial partner for GE in Pakistan and the region.

Engro already being a major GE customer will accelerate its transformation into a digital industrial powerhouse by selling GE solutions and becoming a system integrator of GE Power’s digital solutions to the power generation industry.

Furthermore, Engro and GE will also jointly develop new software applications on GE’s Predix* platform for the Industrial Internet to address industries not currently served by GE in which Engro has deep domain expertise.

In addition, Aon Hewitt, the global human resources and consulting company, also ranked GE first on its annual Global Aon Hewitt Top Companies for Leaders list. However, in 2011, the last time the company ran the survey, GE finished in 11th place. The list has become the most comprehensive global leadership survey since it first appeared in 2001, analyzing links between leadership and financial performance.
