The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is preparing to launch an e-immigration application aimed at digitizing immigration procedures and making travel clearance easier for passengers. The planned application will allow travelers to submit and review important travel information before reaching the airport, enabling the FIA to assess their documents and determine whether they meet the necessary requirements for departure. According to details reported about the initiative, passengers will be able to use the application to check information related to their travel documents and receive updates if additional clarification or documentation is required. Travelers whose information is cleared through the system will receive a QR code that can be used when they arrive at the airport. The system is intended to shift part of the immigration verification process from airport counters to the period before departure.
Under the planned system, travelers will provide relevant personal and travel details through the application, while the FIA will review the information through its immigration systems. If an issue is identified, the passenger can be notified through the application before reaching the airport, giving them an opportunity to address the matter in advance. For passengers who complete the required checks successfully, the QR code will allow their information to be retrieved through the immigration system when they enter the airport. The FIA has been working on digital immigration systems for some time, including the development of e-gates and an AI-powered e-immigration application designed to support advance passenger verification and risk assessment. FIA’s 2025 annual administration report also identified the eIMMI mobile application as a project under development for passenger facilitation and early identification of high-risk travel patterns.
The application is also expected to support the FIA’s passenger risk profiling process. Information submitted by travelers can be assessed through relevant systems to help immigration authorities identify cases requiring additional scrutiny while allowing compliant passengers to proceed through the process more efficiently. Earlier FIA plans for the e-immigration system included integration with official databases and the use of machine learning for passenger profiling. The agency has also been introducing technology-based measures at airports, including electronic gates that are designed to allow eligible passengers to complete immigration checks by scanning their passports. These initiatives form part of a wider move toward technology-driven and risk-based immigration management, with the FIA seeking to reduce manual processing while retaining screening procedures for passengers whose cases require further examination.
The development of the e-immigration application comes as Pakistani authorities continue to focus on improving passenger processing and addressing concerns around immigration procedures at international airports. FIA officials have previously outlined measures aimed at facilitating genuine travelers while improving the identification of passengers involved in irregular migration and human-smuggling activities. The agency has said the new application is in its final stages of development, although details regarding its official launch date and public availability have yet to be announced. Once introduced, the platform could give travelers an opportunity to address documentation issues before reaching the airport and provide immigration officials with passenger information in advance, potentially shifting more of the clearance process to a digital environment.
