ZeniMax Online Studios has officially confirmed the launch of the full seasonal content model for Elder Scrolls Online, marking a significant structural shift in how the long running MMORPG delivers updates and gameplay experiences. While the studio announced over a year ago that it would move away from the traditional Chapter model, 2025 served as a transitional period with Seasons of the Worm Cult retaining several Chapter like elements. The proper seasonal framework will now begin with Season Zero titled Dawn and Dusk, which goes live on April 2, 2026. The announcement was revealed during a developer livestream previewed by selected media outlets, where the studio outlined how this new model is designed to make content delivery more flexible, responsive and accessible for players.

One of the most notable changes arriving with Season Zero is that Update 49 will launch simultaneously on PC and consoles, a first in the history of Elder Scrolls Online. Developers confirmed that this is an essential step toward future cross play support, though full implementation will take additional time. Game Director Nick Giacomini explained that the development team has received consistent feedback from players about the game becoming too predictable, with the Chapter model limiting how quickly the studio could respond to player concerns or address legacy systems. While content will still be released on a quarterly basis, the new approach moves away from a fixed template of dungeon packs and zones, allowing ZeniMax Online Studios to iterate more actively on the core game. A major shift under the seasonal framework is that all new gameplay content will be free starting with Season Zero, removing barriers that previously prevented players from accessing Trials or dungeons together.

Each season will last three months and include a Tamriel Tome and access to the Gold Coast Bazaar. Tamriel Tomes function as the game’s version of a Battle Pass, with every player receiving access to a free track that progresses through weekly and seasonal challenges. Players earn Tome Points to unlock pages and choose rewards, while systems such as Daily Login Rewards and Endeavors are being reworked within this structure. Two optional premium upgrades will also be available, unlocking additional cosmetic focused rewards such as mounts and personalities, with the added benefit of continued progression even after a season ends. The Gold Coast Bazaar introduces a permanent in game storefront where players can earn limited time cosmetics previously tied to events or Twitch drops using Trade Bars. Event Tickets are being removed entirely, with existing balances converted to Trade Bars, which have no holding cap and cannot be purchased with Crowns. ESO Plus subscriptions will remain unchanged, granting subscribers Tome Points monthly, faster progression and one premium Tome unlock token for every twelve months of active subscription.

Season Zero content will be anchored by the Night Market, the first ever Event Zone in Elder Scrolls Online. Set in Fargrave, the limited time PvE zone emphasizes organic group play, faction based progression and competitive objectives between three factions. Rewards include cosmetics and a new house that features a bank for the first time. The Night Market will be available from April 29 through mid June, with developers considering future returns. Season Zero will also introduce the first full PvP progression system and an optional Overland difficulty setting later in the season. Looking ahead, Season One will add the Crimson Veldt group Trial, new Thieves Guild themed stories and dynamic world events, while Season Two will introduce Solo Dungeons and continue class focused combat improvements. Update 49, launching March 9, 2026, brings quality of life changes such as free respecs, faster riding training, account wide outfit slots, expanded housing limits and new mounts purchasable with gold. Developers also confirmed work is underway on Guild Mail and Guild Housing, underscoring the studio’s broader commitment to evolving Elder Scrolls Online under its new seasonal structure.
