The City Traffic Police Lahore has launched a dedicated mobile application called RASTA, designed to give motorists across the city access to real-time traffic advisories, route planning tools, and travel alerts to help them avoid congested roads and make more informed commuting decisions. The application is available for download on both Android through Google Play and iOS platforms, making it accessible to a broad base of smartphone users across Lahore.

The RASTA application offers a suite of features centred on improving the daily commuting experience in a city where traffic congestion has grown into one of the most persistent and costly challenges facing residents. Through the app, motorists can view live traffic conditions, identify alternative routes with lower congestion levels, and receive alerts about road incidents or delays before or during their journey. Officials stated the platform is designed to reduce travel times, lower fuel consumption, and support safer, more efficient movement across the city by giving drivers the information they need to make better route choices rather than relying on instinct or outdated information. Authorities pointedly noted that drivers who do not use the application are more likely to encounter heavy congestion, longer journey times, and unnecessarily high fuel costs as a result.

The launch of the RASTA application reflects a broader shift in how traffic management authorities in Pakistan are approaching urban mobility challenges, moving from purely enforcement-based interventions toward technology-driven tools that help citizens participate actively in reducing congestion. For a city like Lahore, where rapid urbanisation, rising vehicle ownership, and limited road infrastructure have combined to create chronic peak-hour gridlock across major arteries, a real-time data-sharing application that helps distribute traffic load more evenly across available routes represents a practical and scalable supplement to physical traffic management measures. The digital approach also aligns with Punjab’s wider push toward smart city solutions and data-driven public service delivery under the provincial government’s technology agenda.

The City Traffic Police Lahore has encouraged all motorists to download and regularly use the RASTA application as part of a collective effort to improve the flow of traffic across the city. As the user base grows, the quality and accuracy of the real-time traffic data available through the platform is expected to improve, creating a feedback loop where wider adoption directly translates into more reliable and useful information for every commuter using the application.
