Vertical in Focus: Manufacturing & Textile
RapidCompute in collaboration with CIO Pakistan hosted the CIO Table Talks across the country to discuss the basic needs of the industry when it comes to Cloud and the difficulties and problems that various industries face.
The second session for the series was held at Royal Palm, Lahore, and was co-moderated by the RapidCompute and CIO Pakistan editorial team.
The Lahore gathering had a mix of Textile and Manufacturing companies including DG Khan Cement, Nishat Group, Sapphire Group, Naveena Group, Al-Khair Group, Thal Industries, Fatima Fertilizers, Masood Textile, and Style Textiles among others.
Speaking at the session the Commercial Head for RapidCompute, Imran Khan said,
“We started out with RapidCompute in Pakistan because we saw that the need for infrastructure is increasing day by day in the market and the cost is also going up. There were a lot of factors such as electricity etc and that people use the services of Amazon and such. There are many problems with the fibers and the internet problems keep coming and going. If the market is ready why not come and give them the same experience on a local cloud, so they can get a better solution for all their problems. So we started 5 years back and slowly we started to see the market and today we stand as the largest and the oldest public cloud provider in Pakistan.”
When discussing the implementation of the local cloud services in to their companies many issues were raised concerning what if the service goes down during a transaction whether the cloud services provider is local or international.
Industry concerns “When there were heavy rains in the city, our entire power and internet went down. We had to relocate our team from Sheikapura to get everything up and running again, not to mention internet companies such as PTCL doesn’t even have a connection there.”
