Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) and the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) have joined forces to strengthen cooperation and improve data utilization.

MoU was signed by Dr. Kabir Ahmad Sidhu, Chairman of the CCP, and Muhammad Sarwar Gondal, Member of the PBS, at the inaugural National Data Fest-2024 held at the Pak China Friendship Center.

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal graced the event as the Chief Guest, emphasizing the significance of reliable data for informed decision-making and technological advancement. He stressed the importance of policy continuity and stability for sustainable economic development.

MoU aims to promote efficient data sharing and in-depth analysis between the CCP and PBS. This collaboration will enhance the CCP’s ability to monitor and analyze market data across various sectors, enabling them to detect anti-competitive practices more effectively.

Previously, the CCP relied on traditional methods like dawn raids and inquiries to collect evidence. However, with the establishment of the Market Intelligence Unit (MIU), the CCP now employs modern detection techniques to proactively monitor market data and identify potential collusions, price manipulations, and cartels.

The partnership between the CCP and PBS marks a significant step towards improving data utilization in Pakistan. By working together, these organizations can contribute to evidence-based decision-making and promote a competitive business environment.
