Karachi hosted a women focused artificial intelligence initiative as AI for Her, a Women in AI program by Pro AI Global in collaboration with Rotary International District 3271, was successfully held in the city. The event brought together more than 100 women for a women only meetup that combined artificial intelligence training, knowledge sharing, and community engagement. The gathering aimed to create a safe and inclusive space for women interested in understanding, applying, and shaping AI technologies within Pakistan growing digital ecosystem.
The initiative was led by Ammara Aftab, Pakistan first female AI trainer and Rotary District AI Chair, through the flagship event titled Women in AI Connect AI for Her 2026. The session was hosted at the Centre of Excellence in Gaming and Animation CEGA and attracted participants from diverse academic and professional backgrounds. The event was designed to provide structured learning opportunities while encouraging dialogue around ethical responsibility, inclusion, and women leadership in emerging technologies. By focusing on a women only format, the organizers sought to address participation gaps and foster confidence among attendees engaging with advanced technology fields.
Several distinguished speakers contributed to the discussions during the event. Madam Durdana, Head of Women and Inclusion at Rotary, highlighted the importance of creating secure and inclusive environments for women as they enter and advance in emerging technology sectors. She emphasized that representation and safety are foundational to sustained participation in artificial intelligence and related fields. Educator and speaker Mahjabeen Alvina focused on the role of learning, mindset development, and ethical awareness in building meaningful careers in AI. She stressed that technical skills must be paired with responsibility and purpose to ensure that innovation benefits society as a whole. Faraz Hussain, Co Chairperson of Pro AI Global, spoke about the importance of community driven AI growth and responsible innovation, underlining the need for collaborative ecosystems that encourage ethical practices and shared learning.
A central highlight of the event was Ammara Aftab session titled AI Vampires How Intelligent Systems Drain Women Time Privacy and Power. The talk addressed critical but often overlooked challenges associated with artificial intelligence, particularly its disproportionate impact on women. Topics included data exploitation, algorithmic bias, digital surveillance, online harassment, and the broader consequences of unethical AI practices. The session prompted active discussion among participants and encouraged attendees to think critically about how AI systems are designed, deployed, and governed, especially in relation to gender equity and digital rights.
The AI for Her initiative was aligned with Pakistan National AI Policy, the UNESCO Ethical AI Framework, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with specific relevance to SDG 4 on quality education, SDG 5 on gender equality, SDG 8 on decent work and economic growth, SDG 9 on industry and innovation, and SDG 10 on reduced inequalities. Representatives from Rotary International reiterated the need to integrate technology with ethics, inclusion, and service, emphasizing that women participation is essential for developing fair, human centric, and trustworthy AI systems that reflect diverse perspectives.
More than 100 women actively participated in the sessions, engaging in discussions, learning activities, and community networking throughout the event. All attendees received certificates of participation, reinforcing the program focus on structured learning and long term capacity building. Through AI for Her, Pro AI Global continues to strengthen Pakistan AI ecosystem by promoting ethical innovation, inclusion, and women led leadership, while building pathways for women to contribute meaningfully to the future of artificial intelligence in the country.
