With a goal to explain how algorithms are made and the potential dangers of artificial intelligence researchers in the US have unveiled the first psychopathic artificial intelligence machine Norman.
According to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology,
“Norman represents a case study on the dangers of Artificial Intelligence gone wrong when biased data is used in machine learning algorithms.”
Speaking to local news via email, the researchers revealed that Norman is named after the psychopathic killer Norman Bates in the 1960 Alfred Hitchcock film “Psycho.”

They also revealed the behavior AI is significantly influenced by the data it fed, and that the culprit is not the algorithm itself but the biased data.
Norman is fed with short legends describing images of “people dying” found on the Reddit internet platform according to researchers. Then they proceeded to do the Rorschach Inkblot Test to determine what Norman saw as opposed to normal AI.
The results were quite different as the normal AI would see two people standing close and on the same inkblot Norman would see a man jumping out the window. The website norman-ai.mit.edu was ten such examples comparing the answers of the psychological test. The website also lets the user test Norman further with inkblots and send in responses for Norman can fix itself.
