PTA has engaged the services of National Economic Research Associates Inc. (NERA), a leading international consultancy firm, to optimize the release of IMT spectrum for next-generation mobile broadband services in Pakistan.

PTA and NERA signed a contract on November 5th, 2024, marking the official commencement of the consultancy services. The firm will conduct a comprehensive analysis of the Pakistani telecommunications market and recommend reforms, spectrum valuation methodologies, and auction design for the upcoming spectrum release.

NERA was selected through a competitive bidding process, emerging as the top-ranked bidder based on technical and financial criteria. The consultancy firm is expected to complete its work by April 2025.

PTA’s collaboration with NERA is a significant step towards enhancing Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and fostering innovation in the telecommunications sector. By optimizing the spectrum release process, the PTA aims to ensure that the country is well-positioned to capitalize on the benefits of 5G technology.
