Between 2014 and 2017, Faiza Yousuf observed a notable gap in Pakistan’s technology classrooms while teaching software engineering. Her students, both male and female, demonstrated strong technical skills, yet the participation patterns were different. Male students actively engaged, while many women hesitated, held back by a quiet uncertainty about their prospects in tech. It became clear that the challenge was not skill but confidence, community, and representation.
To address this, Faiza launched WomenInTechPK in 2016, creating a safe and supportive environment for women to connect, learn, and grow professionally. Initially a small group of students, the initiative has grown into one of Pakistan’s largest tech communities for women, offering mentorship, career opportunities, and a platform for collaboration. By fostering peer support and industry guidance, WomenInTechPK enables women to confidently navigate Pakistan’s technology landscape.
Building on this foundation, Faiza co-founded CodeGirls, a coding bootcamp training thousands of young women in digital skills, and CaterpillHERs, an accelerator supporting women-led businesses. These initiatives emphasize hands-on learning, career growth, and access to industry networks, allowing women to participate meaningfully in Pakistan’s expanding digital economy. Through PSEB’s support, such programs align with national efforts to cultivate talent and promote inclusivity within the tech sector.
Today, Faiza Yousuf is a technologist and product leader with over 14 years of experience, leading product strategy at Genetech Solutions. She actively contributes to P@SHA’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee and mentors numerous women across the technology ecosystem. Her contributions have gained international recognition, including the Grace Hopper Celebration’s “Systers Pass It On” Award and WomenTech Network’s Ally of the Year title. She is also an IVLP fellow, a graduate of Aga Khan University’s Women’s Leadership Academy, and serves as an ambassador for CryptoChicks.
