PTA has confirmed the full restoration of internet services nationwide following the repair of the SMW4 submarine cable.
The cable fault, which occurred in June 2024, led to a significant reduction in internet capacity, affecting internet speeds and services across the country. The subsequent fault in the AAE-1 cable in August further exacerbated the situation.
However, with the recent repair of the SMW4 cable and the integration of the PEACE cable, internet services have been fully restored to their original capacity.
Despite these improvements, Pakistan continues to face challenges in achieving widespread 4G connectivity. The recent blocking of social media platforms like X, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Snapchat, accessible only through VPNs, has further hindered digital access for many citizens.
PTA’s efforts to improve internet infrastructure and ensure reliable connectivity are crucial for Pakistan’s digital progress. As the country strives to embrace the digital age, addressing these challenges and expanding internet access will be essential for economic growth and social development.
