Everything we know about computer sciences and artificial intelligence is due to the contributions of Alan Turing. He contributed significantly in the development of theoretical computer science, providing a formalization of the concepts of algorithm and computation with the Turing machine, which can be considered a model of a general-purpose computer.
Therefore, it fits right to honor the computing wizards of today with an Award named after the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence.

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Turing Award is given annually for major contributions of lasting importance to computing, and includes a $1 million prize funded by Google. Since its inception in 1966, the award has been honoring computer scientists and engineers who have created the systems and underlying theoretical foundations that have propelled the information technology industry.
The Turing Award is also referred to as the Nobel Prizes of computing. In the next several months, ACM will be celebrating 50 years of the Turing Award and the visionaries who have received it. Their aim is to highlight the significant impact of the contributions of the Turing Laureates on computing and society, to look ahead to the future of technology and innovation, and to help inspire the next generation of computer scientists to invent and dream.

The 50th celebration of the Turing Award is to take place in June 23 – 24, 2017 at the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco with lively moderated discussions exploring how computing has evolved and where the field is headed.
