Channeling centuries of heritage into high fashion, is a startup called Bera, a footwear brand that works with local artisans to produce Peshawari Chappals. The startup has been part of the first cohort at the National Incubation Center in Peshawar in January and has recently been valued at $1 Million.
The investment is a first of its kind for a startup from the province of Khyberpakhtunkwa. Speaking on the occasion is Bera Co-founder and CEO Muhammad Jahangir Ahmad, “We believe that Peshawari Chappal, with its unique look and versatility, can carve its own niche in the global footwear market. We have been very fortunate to be a part of NIC Peshawar’s first cohort as it gave us access to investors and polished our business acumen that led to this valuation.”
Managing Director and Co-founder, Mian Rashed Inam Khattek added, “Our local crafts give us our unique identity in the world, we just need to believe in our own voice and represent it to the best of our ability at a global level.”
The market evaluation of $1 Million is certainly an achievement for Bera and also NIC Peshawar as it is proof that hard work and dedication along with talent can open multiple doors and avenues.
