Meta description:

According to the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, the agency is already making plans to auctions of high-band spectrum starting later this year, to speed the launch of next-generation 5G networks.

Auctions for the 28 GHz band are planned to be held in November, followed immediately by an auction of spectrum in the 24 GHz band, but first they are to get congressional approval by May 13 to proceed, according to the FCC Chairman Ajit Pai.

The move is being highly appreciated by the republicans in the US, and US House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Greg Walden’s panel unanimously approved the bill this month that allowed the FCC to deposit upfront payments from spectrum bidders with the US Treasury.

According to the FCC, the 5G networks are to cut latency to less than one-thousandth of a second from one-hundredth of a second in 4G, and will be 100 times faster than 4G.

Cellular companies have already started to plan the rolling out commercials for 5G in the US, with first Verizon to roll out its 5G commercial in Sacramento, California, in the second half of 2018, with AT&T earlier this month announcing its first 5G commercial rollouts launch in Atlanta, Georgia, and Dallas and Waco, Texas, planned for later this year.

Furthermore, FCC has granted Samsung the world’s first regulatory approval of 28 GHz base stations.
