Zong has partnered with ISP Environmental Solutions (ISPES) to launch PecoDrop, one of the leading smart waste management stations to be deployed in a Pakistani workplace setting, marking a step toward integrating technology, data, and circular economy principles into everyday workplace sustainability. The smart recycling stations will be deployed across Zong facilities to enable source-level segregation and recovery of recyclable plastic, paper, and metal, bringing segregation directly to the point of disposal rather than relying on later sorting processes. By introducing a technology-enabled approach to recycling practices at the point of disposal, PecoDrop aims to reduce recyclable waste from entering landfills while encouraging more responsible consumption and disposal behaviors among employees.
At the core of the initiative is a digitally enabled waste management system that captures data on material deposits, volumes, and collections, creating a traceable data chain from disposal through to recovery. This data layer distinguishes PecoDrop from conventional recycling bins, giving Zong visibility into exactly how much material is being diverted from landfills and where in the collection process it moves, rather than relying on estimates or periodic manual audits. The initiative extends Zong’s stated ambition of applying technology beyond connectivity to address environmental and social challenges, following a pattern the company has built over the past year through partnerships with WWF Pakistan and ISPES on coastal clean-up drives, and with Energy and Automation Private Limited on IoT-powered Smart Energy Management Solutions for corporate clients.
Through an integrated rewards mechanism, Zong employees will earn Credits for depositing recyclable materials, allowing them to digitally track their contributions and redeem accumulated rewards over time. By connecting responsible action with tangible recognition, the mechanism is designed to make recycling simpler and more engaging while building a culture of environmental responsibility within the workplace, rather than treating sustainability as a purely top-down policy directive. Zong’s Head of Strategy and Company Spokesperson Nabila Yazdani said the initiative demonstrates how technology, data, and employee participation can come together to create a more measurable approach to waste management, framing it as a practical step toward building a scalable model for a more circular workplace.
ISPES CEO Dr Zillay Maryam described the partnership as going beyond simple collection points, framing it instead as engineering the first mile of a true circular economy by deploying tech-integrated segregation systems that ensure waste separation begins at the precise point of disposal. This positioning builds on ISPES’s earlier collaboration with Zong and WWF Pakistan during Plastic Free July, where collected coastal waste was transported for systematic segregation and directed to ISPES’s upcycling facility to support circular economy practices. Timed alongside World Cleanup Day, the PecoDrop launch represents Zong’s continued effort to turn workplace sustainability from an occasional activity into an everyday, measurable practice, with the company framing the convergence of technology, data, and circular economy principles as a foundation for further environmental initiatives across its operations going forward.
