Samsung has started rolling out the stable version of One UI 9, its customized interface based on Android 17, to eligible Galaxy smartphones. The Galaxy S26 series is among the first devices receiving the update, while Samsung has also confirmed Android 17 comes pre-installed on newer models including the Galaxy S26 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8. The rollout comes around three months after Google initially released Android 17 for Pixel smartphones.
One UI 9 introduces several new features, with Samsung placing particular attention on AI-powered tools. NowNudge can perform context-sensitive actions from within conversations, such as creating a calendar entry or making a booking based on information discussed in a chat. NowBrief provides personalized summaries covering areas such as sleep information, weather, appointments and podcast recommendations, while users can customize the information included. Samsung is also adding My FanCam, which automatically keeps a selected person centered while recording video.
The update also adds new device management and security features. A Warranty and Care section allows users to check the warranty status of connected devices and run diagnostic checks when problems occur. Security Brief provides information about potential risks involving malware, applications from unknown sources and unnecessary permissions. Samsung is also using AI for privacy alerts intended to warn users about potential risks to their personal information. Many of the new AI-related functions require users to sign in with a Samsung account.
Samsung is expected to expand the One UI 9 rollout to additional Galaxy devices in the coming weeks. The Galaxy S25 and S24 families, along with newer foldable models, are among the devices expected to receive Android 17, although rollout dates can vary by market. The Galaxy S23 series is also set to receive One UI 9, which will be its final major Android operating system update, while the Galaxy S22 series has reached the end of its major Android upgrade cycle but continues to receive security updates. Users with eligible devices can check manually under Settings, Software Update and Download and install.
