Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has recently collaborated with Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to organize a workshop on “Domain Name System (DNS) Abuse and Misuse” at PTA Headquarters Islamabad.
The aim of the workshop was to build capacity and skills of senior technical officials from PTA, telecom sector and other stakeholders. At the event, the participants were introduced to strategies, techniques and tools that information security professionals use to identify abuses of DNS, and malicious registrations of domain names or hosting.
Fahd Batayneh, Manager ICANN for the Middle East region conducted the workshop. He has vast technical experience of the subject at the international level.
Furthermore, the workshop was focused on capacity building among technical professionals to enhance their familiarity with internet protocols and equip them with essential skills and knowledge to intercept and block DNS attacks.
PTA is on a mission to enhance cyber-security of the telecom sector and capacity building of the Pakistani technical community and this workshop was just one of many that the authority is to conduct. Other workshops that are to be held include but are not limited to IPv6 routing, IXP workshops, DNSSEC and Network security.
