The Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry recently in a statement announced that the tech giants Facebook and Google are to invest in Pakistan. However, the Minister did not give away any further information or insight into the matter.
According to him, the invest by Facebook and Google will help local talent to flourish in the field of information technology. These remarks were made on Monday by Mr. Fawad Chaudhry while briefing the Senate’s Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting.
The meeting was chaired by PTI Senator Faisal Javed, where they discussed various media-related issues including the looming doubts on the future role of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA). However, it is reported that meeting for the agenda had deferred for another meeting on the request of Senator Rubina Khalid, Khushbakhat Shujaat, and Pir Sabir Shah as only three members were able to attend the meeting.
During the briefing, the federal minister informed the Senate committee that the government plans to establish a new regulatory authority for all types of media, Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PMRA)
