WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to monitor activity across linked devices, marking a significant step towards improving account transparency and security. The update is expected to provide users with greater visibility into how their accounts are being accessed, particularly in scenarios where multiple devices are connected simultaneously through the platform’s multi-device functionality.

The feature is designed to give users detailed insights into activity on linked devices, including information related to usage patterns and access history. This development builds on WhatsApp’s existing linked devices system, which allows users to access their accounts across multiple platforms such as desktops and tablets without requiring a constant connection to their primary smartphone. However, until now, users have had limited visibility into what actions are being performed on these connected devices.

With the upcoming update, users are expected to gain more control over their accounts by being able to review activity and identify any unfamiliar or unauthorised access. This could play an important role in strengthening user confidence, particularly as messaging platforms continue to expand their multi device capabilities. The feature is also likely to complement existing privacy tools such as end to end encryption and device management settings, further enhancing overall account protection.

The activity monitoring feature is currently under development and is expected to be introduced gradually through beta testing before a wider rollout. Once available, it will provide users with an additional layer of security by allowing them to actively track and manage their connected devices. The move reflects a broader trend among digital platforms to prioritise transparency and user control as concerns around data privacy and account security continue to grow.
