Virtual University has announced two free online courses in collaboration with International Telecommunication Union Digital Transformation Centres and Cisco Networking Academy to mark International Micro, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Day 2026. The initiative is aimed at helping individuals, entrepreneurs and small business owners develop digital and entrepreneurial skills that can support participation in the growing digital economy.

The programme will run throughout June 2026 and is part of broader efforts to promote digital literacy and business development among citizens and small enterprises. According to the organisers, the courses are being offered through Virtual University’s participation in the Digital Transformation Centres initiative, which seeks to accelerate the adoption of digital technologies and enhance the capabilities of entrepreneurs and small businesses. International Micro, Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Day is observed annually on June 27 to recognise the role of small businesses in economic growth, job creation and innovation.

The first course, titled “Using Computer and Mobile Devices,” focuses on foundational digital literacy skills. Participants will learn how to effectively use computers, smartphones and online tools that are increasingly essential for communication, business operations and access to digital services. Organisers stated that the course is designed for individuals seeking to improve their confidence in using technology for personal and professional purposes.

The second course, “Discovering Entrepreneurship,” introduces participants to the fundamentals of business development, innovation and entrepreneurial thinking. The programme is intended to help aspiring entrepreneurs understand how ideas can be transformed into viable business opportunities while providing insights into basic business concepts and enterprise management. Officials said the course is particularly relevant for individuals interested in launching small businesses or improving the operations of existing enterprises.

Virtual University noted that the initiative reflects ongoing efforts to expand access to digital education and support entrepreneurship through online learning platforms. The institution said that strengthening digital skills and business knowledge remains important as more economic activity shifts towards technology enabled services and digital platforms. Interested participants can register online for both courses free of charge and complete the training remotely through the designated learning platforms. The organisers encouraged students, professionals and small business owners to take advantage of the opportunity to improve their skills and explore new opportunities in the digital economy.
