The United States has reiterated its commitment to strengthening economic ties with Pakistan by supporting deeper collaboration in the information technology sector. During a webinar hosted by US Charge d’Affaires Natalie A Baker, representatives from 25 American information and communication technology companies engaged directly with senior Pakistani government officials to explore commercial partnerships and investment prospects in Pakistan’s growing digital economy. The virtual session aimed to bridge public and private sector stakeholders from both countries and identify pathways to expand cooperation in high potential technology segments.
Senior Pakistani officials participating in the discussion included Federal Ministry of IT and Telecom Secretary Zarar Hasham Khan, Special Technology Zones Authority Chairman Azfar Manzoor and Special Investment Facilitation Council Project Director Syed Hadi. The dialogue focused on regulatory frameworks, investment facilitation mechanisms, and the broader policy environment shaping Pakistan ICT landscape. Officials highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure, streamline approvals, and create an enabling climate for foreign investors seeking to enter or expand within the Pakistani market.
Addressing participants, Baker emphasized that by working together, both countries can unlock the full potential of the Pakistan IT sector, generate new opportunities for American businesses, and contribute to broader economic development. She reaffirmed that the US embassy and consulates in Pakistan would continue supporting American companies by connecting them with local partners and ensuring access to relevant information and institutional guidance. According to her remarks, the mission remains committed to facilitating investment flows, promoting trade linkages, and advocating policies aimed at improving the overall business environment.
The webinar also spotlighted specific growth areas including cloud computing, data centres, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence, sectors where US firms bring established expertise and global experience. Baker noted that 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the United States, a milestone celebrating American innovation and leadership, particularly in technology driven industries. Against this backdrop, participants underscored the importance of timely engagement between US and Pakistani stakeholders to harness emerging opportunities and strengthen long term technology cooperation between the two countries.
