Organized by the university’s Department of Mass Communication, the session titled “AI & Journalism: Rethinking the Digital Newsroom” will bring together media professionals, students, faculty members and others interested in the impact of emerging technologies on journalism.
The discussion is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Sarwar Naseem Hall at the University of Karachi, with the session beginning at 10:00 AM. The event will focus on the intersection of artificial intelligence and modern journalism, particularly as digital technologies continue to influence how news organizations produce, distribute and manage content. The university said the session will provide an opportunity for participants to gain insights into the changing media environment while examining how newsrooms can adapt to technological developments while maintaining established principles of reporting.
The panel will feature Amber Shamsi, Pakistan Editor at Nukta, Manzar Elahi, Digital Output Head at Geo News, and Sana Jamil, Digital Editor (English) at Geo News. The discussion will be moderated by Wasif Shakil, Digital Content Operations Manager at IMM. Their participation is expected to bring perspectives from different areas of digital media, including editorial operations, digital content production and online news management.
