In its 100-year existence, the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) has appointed its first female professor. Dr. Saima Yasin, who joined the Chemical Engineering Department, is currently the first female professor of engineering at Lahore’s oldest and largest engineering and technology institution.When it first opened in 1921, it was known as the Mughalpura Technical College before being renamed the UET in 1962.
Dr. Saim Yasin is also the province’s first female professor. The varsity syndicate has also nominated her as the first female head of any engineering department at the UET and in the province, as she is the sole female professor in a department of 23 professors.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Syed Mansoor Sarwar said,
“Dr. Saima has reached an important milestone in the history of this wonderful university, and I’m glad that it happened during my tenure as VC.”
