A step to control fuel consumption and protect environment by Government

The government of Pakistan has taken a step forward to encourage the usage of Hybrid Cars.  The government has announced a 50% depletion in Excise Duty for importing Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) up to 1800cc and a 25% depletion on HEVs above 1800cc. The government voiced this decision, to encourage the usage of HEVs, the protection of environment and to keep a control on fuel. Fact is that 1800cc cars are too expensive to be affordable by the middle class. If the government really wants to encourage the use of HEVs Cars, they should reduce the duty on 1000cc Hybrid cars, so that its affordable for the middle class as well.
