The cellular operators expecting a reduction in sales tax

Karachi: The cellular mobile operators CMOs appealed that their GST and FED should be equal to that of other sectors. The CMOs appealed that the sales tax or the Federal Excise Duty FED should reduce by 2.5% to 17%. The tax applied on CMOs is 19.5% as compared to 17% which is charged to all the other sectors. CMOs announced that the tax should be equal to all the other sectors and the tax on SIM activation should be abolished. CMOs have to deal with double taxation, 19.5% of taxation is paid to FBR which is equal to the amount of GST charged by provincial governments. This issue is hurting the affordability of service and lowering the revenues as well as a great obstacle in the productivity of the industry.
