Stimulus-ClimateLaunchpad Pakistan Final Determines the Next Generation of Clean-Tech Entrepreneurs Ready to Fix Climate Change One Start-Up at a Time

The final round of Stimulus -ClimateLaunchpad green business ideas competition with a primary focus on identifying climate change solutions, was held in Karachi, Pakistan on August 22. The competition attracted 71 clean-tech entrepreneurs from across the country who submitted their applications and the top 12 teams competed to determine two best teams that will represent Pakistan at the Global Final competition later this year.

ClimateLaunchpad is the world’s largest green business ideas competition with the mission to unlock the world’s clean-tech potential that addresses climate change. Pakistan is participating for the second time in the ClimateLaunchpad program along with 57 countries.

  1. O’naps from Lahore was the top team in the competition. Their mission is to provide safe and environmentally friendly menstrual hygiene solutions to reduce the health risks of women.
  2. Second prize winner is Aabshar from Lahore who have developed a water optimizer that saves water up to 98% by simply installing as an add-on to taps.
  3. In third place was Peepu, from Karachi with their idea to facilitate farmers to sell their products digitally, using the Peepu marketplace app.

Hira Wajahat, National Lead ClimateLaunchpad Pakistan:

“The response to ClimateLaunchpad in Pakistan has been phenomenal. Not only do we receive amazing applications from across Pakistan, we have also been recognized as the country having more than 50% participation from women in clean-tech and climate entrepreneurship for the second year in a row. The possibilities for Made in Pakistan are phenomenal which is what we want to work towards in the long run.”

Jury for the final pitching round comprised of Ms Sadaf Mahmood, Xiphios Innovations; Ms Nida Athar, Pakistan Innovation Foundation; Mr Mohammad Ali Ibrahim, Jazz; Mr Faisal Sherjan, Colabs; & Dr Shujaat Rathor, Mohammad Ali Jinnah University. The judges agreed unanimously that the ideas presented were very good and they had a difficult time in selecting the best three teams.

The Pakistan Team for ClimateLaunchpad has also been selected to host the ClimateLaunchpad Regional Final for Middle East, Central Asia and Eastern Europe in which the team from Pakistan will be competing against 14 other countries. The event will be organized virtually on September 17 & 18, 2020 in collaboration with local partners including Engro Foundation, Computer World & IDG Pakistan. Additionally, the National Incubation Center Islamabad, National Incubation Center Karachi, Impact Network Pk and Team Up are also partners.

Stimulus, the local partner for ClimateLaunchpad has also signed up for the Clean Green Pakistan initiative of the Ministry of Climate Change and contributes its efforts to promote and support climate entrepreneurship in Pakistan.
