under Roshan Pakistan Scheme over 20,000 houses will be switched to solar energy as a step to reduce power crisis in the country by utilizing alternative energy resources, announced Zahid Muzaffar on Tuesday.

According to local media, Adviser to Prime Minister on Energy Zahid Muzaffar spoke, at a roundtable conference organized by the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), on the topic Efficient energy mix through entrepreneurial engagement assuring that the government had taken radical measures, which had started bringing significant results in the energy sector.

He said that the problem cant be solved overnight due to vast gap between production and need as local gas production was 4 billion cubic feet per day against demand for about 8 billion cubic feet.

First liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal had helped enhance gas supply to different sectors including fertilizer and textile, Muzaffar said, adding for the past 16 to 18 months gas was supplied without interruption to the textile sector as it was the main contributor to exports of the country.

He also mentioned that the government was planning to develop more LNG terminals in the next two years as oil and gas were main components in the energy mix. These measures, he believed, would help overcome energy shortage, which was a major impediment to economic development and industrial growth.
