Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi launched the Khidmat-i-Sindh app on Thursday to facilitate the registration and effective resolution of public complaints. Addressing the ceremony at the Governor House in Karachi, he said that all relevant departments had worked together to develop the app. A total of 65 federal and provincial government departments and institutions have been connected to the platform, according to the governor. Through the app, citizens will be able to submit complaints and requests for information directly to the relevant departments using their mobile phones, which removes the need to visit several offices to find the department that is responsible for a particular matter.
The governor said that the purpose of the initiative was not to undermine anyone, but to serve the public, to resolve their problems promptly and to ensure that the performance of government institutions is accountable to citizens. He said that ordinary citizens often complained that their legitimate matters remained unresolved and that they faced various difficulties in getting their problems addressed. The app has been introduced in response to this public need, he said, so that the complaints of citizens reach the relevant departments directly and their resolution is pursued effectively. He added that it would serve as a communication channel between the public and government institutions, allowing citizens to register complaints conveniently and to track the progress that is made in resolving them.
Hashmi also said that collective efforts were essential for the development of the province and the prosperity of its people. He stressed that everyone must fulfil their responsibilities to turn the dreams of the Quaid-i-Azam into reality, and he emphasised that no one will come from outside to ensure the progress and prosperity of the country, so people must work together themselves. His remarks placed the app within a wider call for shared responsibility, and they presented the platform as one of the means through which citizens and institutions can cooperate on the problems of the province.
Earlier, the principal secretary to the governor, Dr Saif-ur-Rehman, briefed the participants on the features of the app and on how to use it. He explained that citizens could register complaints of any nature through the app, which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. Once a complaint is received, the relevant department will be responsible for addressing it, he said. The app allows citizens to report crimes, sanitation issues and other public concerns that affect everyday life, and users will also be able to view the status of their registered complaints and monitor progress online. The launch ceremony was attended, among others, by the director general of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) in Sindh and the additional inspector general of police for Karachi.
