In a recent video statement, Dr. Umar Saif, the Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, underscored the pivotal role played by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) forum in propelling digital transformation and attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) to Pakistan. Dr. Saif emphasized that decisions taken through the SIFC in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) are geared towards benefiting the masses and fostering the rapid development and stability of the country’s economy.

Highlighting the inclusive nature of the SIFC forum, Dr. Saif noted its participation from diverse stakeholders, including military and political leadership, resulting in streamlined and efficient decision-making processes. He expressed confidence in the SIFC’s ability to facilitate timely decisions for the country’s development and public interests with the upcoming government.

Dr. Saif stressed the importance of prioritizing economic stability and public interests over departmental obstacles and lauded the SIFC’s effectiveness as a forum for swift and efficient decision-making. He shared a successful outcome related to the spectrum, where a longstanding case with Sun TV was addressed, resulting in the transfer of the spectrum to government custody with a market value worth multi-million dollars.

Additionally, Dr. Saif highlighted the SIFC’s integral role in various initiatives, including the establishment of an Advisory Committee for spectrum auctions, the nationwide expansion of the optical fiber network, and the effective implementation of the Right of Way Policy. He noted that the SIFC has successfully navigated departmental hurdles, ensuring swift approvals for crucial decisions.

Dr. Saif further pointed out the SIFC’s significant contribution to the formulation of Pakistan’s first space policy, which has received approval from relevant forums. Negotiations with Starlink are in the final stages, promising imminent availability of satellite internet to the public and enhancements to the existing network.

In conclusion, Dr. Umar Saif emphasized the SIFC forum’s pivotal role in driving digital innovation, fostering economic growth, and ensuring that Pakistan remains an attractive destination for foreign direct investment.
