Punjab has rolled out a cashless payment system for its public transport network, introducing the eTransit Punjab App and the T-Cash Card to allow commuters to travel across metro and electric bus services without cash or long queues. Punjab Information Technology Board announced the initiative as a joint effort with the Punjab Transport Department and the Punjab Mass Transit Authority.
The electronic fare collection system is designed to make commuting faster, more secure, and more convenient by removing the need for cash payments and token purchases at transit stations. Commuters can use either the T-Cash Card or the eTransit Punjab mobile application to access metro bus and electric bus services through a single digital platform, consolidating what had previously been separate ticketing processes across different transit modes into one unified system.
The T-Cash Card functions as a rechargeable smart card that also doubles as a debit card supporting everyday financial transactions, giving it utility beyond public transport alone. Officials said the new system is intended to streamline fare collection and reduce waiting times, offering passengers a smoother overall travel experience across Punjab’s metro bus, Orange Line train, and electric bus services.
Punjab Information Technology Board Chairman Faisal Yousaf called the launch a significant milestone in the digital transformation of Punjab’s transportation sector, saying the goal is to give citizens a secure and modern travel experience through technology. He added that the board remains committed to introducing digital solutions that improve the efficiency, transparency, and accessibility of public services, positioning the eTransit App and T-Cash Card as the latest addition to a broader set of digital initiatives the board has rolled out across Punjab’s public service infrastructure in recent years.
