The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), in collaboration with the Punjab Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), conducted a dedicated e-Procurement training session for Probationary Officers of the fourteenth batch at the Management and Professional Development Department (MPDD) in Lahore. The session formed part of a broader effort to equip incoming civil servants with the digital tools, regulatory knowledge, and procedural understanding required to navigate Pakistan’s evolving public procurement landscape from the earliest stages of their government careers.

The training featured two key presentations that addressed different dimensions of the e-Procurement ecosystem. PPRA Managing Director Sahibzadi Wasimah Umar led the session on the legal and regulatory framework governing procurement processes in Punjab, providing participants with a comprehensive grounding in the rules, compliance requirements, and accountability structures that underpin public purchasing at the provincial level. PITB Joint Director of e-Procurement Muhammad Ashfaq Tiwana then briefed participants on the e-Procurement system itself, covering its scope, core functionalities, and the practical benefits it delivers to both government departments and vendors across the country.

The e-Procurement system deployed in Punjab leverages modern digital infrastructure to ensure that public procurement is conducted with greater transparency, security, and efficiency than traditional paper-based processes allow. By enabling vendors from across Pakistan to submit bids online, the system significantly broadens participation in government contracting, reduces opportunities for irregularities, and accelerates the overall procurement cycle. Embedding this knowledge into the training curricula for new Probationary Officers reflects a deliberate institutional strategy to build a generation of civil servants who are digitally literate, governance-oriented, and capable of driving Pakistan’s public sector modernisation agenda from within government departments from day one of their service.
