An independent survey conducted by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has uncovered that cellular mobile operators (CMOs) have failed to meet several key performance indicators (KPIs) outlined in their licenses and regulations.
The survey, carried out in seventeen cities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Balochistan, and Sindh during the 4th Quarter of 2023, utilized the “SMARTBENCHMARKER” Automated QoS Monitoring & Benchmarking Tool.
Results showed discrepancies in areas such as webpage loading time, voice quality, and latency. For instance, only Ufone fully complied with the threshold of -100 dBm or above of Reference Signal Receive Power (RSRP) as per Next Generation Mobile Service (NGMS) licenses.
Moreover, Jazz and Zong were the only operators found fully compliant with the Webpage Loading Time threshold of 5 Seconds, as per Cellular Mobile Network Quality of Service (QoS) Regulations 2021. However, no operator fully met the latency threshold requirements.
Further analysis of 7 KPIs related to voice services revealed mixed results, with only Zong fully compliant. Ookla Speed Test results showed Jazz as the sole fully compliant operator in terms of latency.
PTA has instructed operators to take corrective measures to enhance service quality and meet regulatory standards.
