Blasphemy is a sensitive topic in Pakistan, as even simple allegations can result in a life lost as recent events have shown. It seems that to avoid such incidents, PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) has started rolling out SMS to millions of Pakistanis with a warning text message. The message states,
“Uploading & sharing of blasphemous content on Internet is a punishable offense under the law. Instead of taking law in hand, such content should be reported to PTA on info@pta.gov.pk for legal action.”
According to the organization, the message was issued under an order by the court. A similar message was also displayed on PTA’s website in Urdu.
