The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is expanding its mobile network quality inspections to Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and other major cities, after completing a recent assessment of telecommunications services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The authority plans to conduct similar field surveys in Lahore and Karachi in the coming days, and Peshawar is also included in the wider inspection plan. The surveys are intended to assess network coverage, call quality, internet connectivity and the overall performance of services. According to PTA officials, the aim is to identify areas where consumers continue to face connectivity problems and to check how the operators of cellular mobile networks are performing at the places where users experience their services.
The upcoming assessments will involve representatives from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication and the mobile network operators. They will follow the approach that was used in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, where senior PTA officials personally examined network performance at various locations. By taking officials of the ministry and the operators to the same sites, the authority intends to let all parties see the condition of the networks at first hand. The authority has not yet shared a detailed schedule or the specific inspection routes for the next phase of the surveys, so the dates for Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar are yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, PTA is preparing a detailed report on its recent inspections in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The report will cover network performance, service quality, connectivity issues and the areas that require improvement. It will be submitted to the authority for consideration and further action, which means that the findings of the field visits in the twin cities will be reviewed before any decisions are taken. The preparation of the report shows that the inspections are intended to produce a record of the conditions that were found, along with recommendations for the improvement of services.
PTA has said that the aim of the exercise is to ensure wider network coverage, more reliable connectivity and better service quality, as mobile operators expand their infrastructure and introduce advanced telecommunications services across the country. The regulator intends to focus on improving the present 4G coverage, the quality of service and connectivity, alongside the rollout of next generation mobile technology. The inspections in Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar continue the field work that the authority has carried out in recent weeks, and the officials have indicated that the findings will be used to address problems such as weak coverage and poor call and internet quality in the cities that are inspected.
