Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has taken decisive action against unauthorized SIM activations following a major raid at a telecom franchise in Sheikhupura. The operation was led by PTA’s Zonal Office in Lahore in collaboration with National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency Lahore after a complaint from a female citizen whose CNIC had been misused multiple times to register SIMs without her consent. The incident highlights ongoing concerns over the misuse of biometric verification systems in telecom operations and the importance of regulatory oversight to protect citizens.

During the raid, officials seized a variety of devices including two mobile phones, one laptop, five Biometric Verification System devices, and 150 SIMs that were connected to unauthorized registrations. The operation also resulted in the sacking of two individuals, including the franchise owner and a telecom company employee implicated in facilitating the illegal SIM issuance. An FIR has been registered, and further investigations are ongoing to determine if additional parties were involved. PTA emphasized that it remains committed to stopping the misuse of biometric systems and preventing illegal SIM activities across the country.

PTA has encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious or unauthorized SIMs registered against their CNICs. Complaints can be lodged through the authority’s dedicated helpline 0800 55055 or via its online complaint portal. This proactive approach is part of PTA’s broader efforts to ensure compliance in the telecom sector and safeguard users from potential misuse of personal information. Officials noted that regular audits and increased monitoring of franchises will continue to curb unauthorized activities and strengthen digital security.

The Sheikhupura raid represents one of several ongoing initiatives by PTA to tighten controls on SIM registrations and prevent fraudulent practices. By collaborating with law enforcement agencies and leveraging technology-driven investigations, the authority aims to create a secure mobile ecosystem and enhance public confidence in the digital services sector. The agency has reiterated that citizens’ cooperation is crucial, urging them to report any anomalies promptly to support the nationwide crackdown on illegal SIM operations.
