PTA has officially announced scheduled maintenance for its Device Identification, Registration, and Blocking System (DIRBS), a crucial system designed to regulate mobile device registration and prevent the use of smuggled or illegal phones in the country. The maintenance initiative aims to enhance system performance, optimize security protocols, and improve overall user experience.

According to the PTA, the maintenance work will begin at 7:00 PM on March 7, 2025, and continue until 11:45 PM on March 9, 2025. During this period, the mobile registration service will be temporarily unavailable, affecting individuals who were planning to register their mobile devices through DIRBS. The authority has advised users to plan accordingly and complete any necessary registrations before the scheduled downtime to avoid inconvenience.

PTA emphasized that the maintenance is a proactive measure to strengthen the DIRBS infrastructure, ensuring seamless and uninterrupted services for mobile users across the country. Given the increasing number of mobile phone registrations and the growing demand for a robust system, the scheduled upgrade is expected to improve processing speed, enhance security features, and streamline user interaction with the platform.

Introduced in 2018, DIRBS has played a pivotal role in controlling the influx of unregistered and illegally imported mobile devices into Pakistan. The system has helped the government combat tax evasion, curb mobile phone smuggling, and safeguard consumers from counterfeit or substandard devices. By requiring all mobile phones to be registered, DIRBS has also contributed to improving national security by reducing the use of unauthorized mobile devices in criminal activities.

PTA has assured the public that all services will resume as usual once the maintenance is completed and has requested users and media organizations to cooperate during this period. The authority also urged mobile users to stay updated through its official channels regarding any further announcements or changes to the maintenance schedule. As the digital landscape in Pakistan continues to expand, the PTA remains committed to enhancing the efficiency and security of its regulatory systems. This maintenance initiative reflects the authority’s dedication to ensuring a smooth and transparent mobile device registration process, ultimately benefiting millions of users nationwide.
