Professor Dr. Samar Yousaf, a distinguished scientist from Pakistan, has been elected as a Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), an international organization dedicated to advancing scientific research and innovation in developing nations. According to a report by 24NewsHD TV channel, her fellowship will officially commence on January 1, 2026, recognizing her significant contributions to the field of chemistry and her broader efforts to strengthen scientific development in the Global South. This recognition places Dr. Yousaf among an elite group of scientists whose work has had a meaningful impact on research and education in developing countries.

Dr. Samar Yousaf currently holds a professorship at the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at University of Karachi and has been honored as a COMSTECH Distinguished Scholar. Her academic portfolio reflects extensive research and scholarly contributions, with over 260 publications, more than 3,900 citations, and an h-index of 32. These metrics highlight her influence in the field of chemistry, both regionally and internationally. Through her research, Dr. Yousaf has contributed to advancements in chemical sciences while also promoting collaboration, mentoring, and scientific exchange among researchers in Pakistan and other developing countries.

The election to TWAS acknowledges not only her research achievements but also her role in fostering innovation and knowledge dissemination across the scientific community. TWAS Fellowships are awarded to scientists who demonstrate outstanding accomplishments and a commitment to advancing science in regions where resources and infrastructure may be limited. By recognizing researchers like Dr. Yousaf, TWAS emphasizes the importance of building local capacity, encouraging emerging scientists, and strengthening networks that support sustainable scientific growth in developing nations.

Prof. Dr. Iqbal Chaudhry, Coordinator General of OIC-COMSTECH and Vice President of TWAS for South and Central Asia, congratulated Dr. Samar Yousaf on this milestone, highlighting it as a moment of pride for Pakistan’s scientific community as well as the wider Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) region. He emphasized that her recognition underscores Pakistan’s growing contribution to global science and serves as an inspiration for aspiring researchers across the country. Dr. Yousaf’s fellowship is expected to enhance collaborative research opportunities, encourage mentorship programs, and elevate Pakistan’s visibility in international scientific forums, reinforcing the nation’s role in advancing chemistry and scientific knowledge within developing economies.

Dr. Samar Yousaf’s election to TWAS also reflects broader trends in recognizing female scientists and leaders in research-intensive fields, an area where representation has historically been limited. Her accomplishments set an example for upcoming generations of researchers, particularly women, demonstrating the potential for impactful contributions to global scientific challenges. Through this fellowship, she is positioned to influence policy, education, and research collaboration, further integrating Pakistan’s scientific community into international networks and ensuring sustained progress in chemical and biological sciences.
