Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a crucial meeting on Tuesday to strategize on tapping into Pakistan’s billion-dollar potential in IT exports. The agenda included ensuring access to education, skill development, and startup support for young individuals keen on entering the technology sector.
Key officials, including Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja, were present at the meeting, where discussions centered on enhancing the IT and Telecom sector.
PM Sharif highlighted the importance of resolving issues faced by startups and freelancers, particularly in banking matters, recalling the IT initiatives undertaken during his 2022 government tenure.
He stressed the need for further growth to bring Pakistan’s IT sector up to international standards and requested a comprehensive report on special technology zones. Progress on the IT package announced in June 2023 was also reviewed.
The meeting noted a commendable 13 percent increase in IT exports during the first seven months of the current fiscal year, attributing it to initiatives implemented during Sharif’s previous term.
PM Sharif underscored the significance of legal and policy measures to attract investment and boost IT exports, urging efforts in professional and technical training.
Furthermore, the meeting delved into progress updates on various IT, E-Rozgar, cybersecurity, telecom, and 5G projects, signaling the government’s commitment to advancing Pakistan’s technology landscape.
