Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stressed the need for comprehensive measures to eliminate corruption within customs operations. During a meeting focused on FBR and Pakistan Customs, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of removing unnecessary obstacles and utilizing artificial intelligence and advanced technology to ensure the effective enforcement of customs duties.
Describing the customs sector as the backbone of the country’s economy, PM Shehbaz emphasized that FBR reforms and complete digitization are essential for guaranteeing economic security. He instructed authorities to conduct third-party audits of reform initiatives across the FBR and other departments, consolidating all such projects under a single umbrella.
The Prime Minister directed efforts to increase revenue collection through improved enforcement and the establishment of a project management unit to spearhead reforms in the customs sector. He called for the resolution of issues related to mis-invoicing and the elimination of under-invoicing to protect Pakistan’s industries and products. Additionally, he sought detailed reports on revenue collection resulting from enforcement measures and instructed the establishment of a regulatory framework for the operations of the shipping industry.
