Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the immediate closure of the National Information Technology Board (NITB), according to official sources. The PM office issued directives to Coordinator to the Prime Minister Rana Ihsan Afzal and relevant ministries regarding the digitization of the Prime Minister’s Office and the implementation of the E-Office system.

prime minister, during a recent meeting, instructed the E-Office system to be fully operational in the PM’s Office/Secretariat within three days. Additionally, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication was directed to initiate the legislative process for the dissolution of the NITB, along with a detailed plan for the transfer of its functions and assets.

Further directives were issued to integrate the Task Management System with the E-Office application to ensure seamless interoperability between systems.

The Minister for Economic Affairs, Rana Ihsan Afzal, Secretary Cabinet, and the Minister of State for IT & Telecom are tasked with finalizing the strategic vision for automation and developing a comprehensive change management plan to support this transition.

This decision comes after the government’s rightsizing committee recommended the closure of four departments, including the NITB.
